McDonaldfs Company (Japan), Ltd., a consolidated subsidiary of the holding company, has worked for the enhancement of QSC, the very basics of the restaurant business, since 2004 for higher customer satisfaction. Based on the improved QSC, the companyfs implemented various strategies including (1) successful launch of a new regular breakfast menu item, gMcGriddleh, in January, (2) successful limited time offer of gMega Mach, (3) expansion of 24-hour operation mainly in drive-thru restaurants, (4) remodeling to offer comfortable dining environments, (4) enhanced and continuously offered \100 menu, and (5) cultivation of new customer base by distributing free coffee coupons. These strategies exhibited multiple effect, resulting in favorable business results in the first quarter such as record daily sales in January and new monthly sales record in March.
In addition, the companyfs CSR activities enhanced McDonaldfs Japanfs brand power and diversified its customer base.
These activities brought about sales of 96,462 million yen (12.1% up from a year earlier), ordinary income of 4,960 million yen (136.6% up from a year earlier), and current net income of 2,875 million yen (12,577.7% up from a year earlier). The company also achieved new record systemwide sales in March.
In light of the favorable progress of the strategies and good business results achieved in the first quarter, the company revised its interim and annual consolidated business forecasts as shown in the attachment.
